then type rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0 in the type the location of the item box
click next, then give a name to the shortcut, say Sleep, in the type a name for this shortcut box
the default shortcut icon doesn't look the part so it is nicer to change it to something better.
So right click on the newly created shortcut icon and then select properties
click change icon, browse to windows\system32\shell32.dll to the list of windows icons that you can use.
after selecting the icon you want, click ok and then apply
Now you can right click the created shortcut icon and select pin to taskbar for easy access to put your computer to sleep.

Create a lock button in Windows 8

How to show hibernate option in Windows 8
Windows 8 no longer show the hibernate option. So how to set it to show the hibernate option?
Move your mouse cursor to the bottom right of the screen to show the charms bar, select settings and go to control panel.
Once in control panel, select power option.
Select choose what the power buttons do
Click change settings that are currently unavailable
Scroll down to shut-down settings
Select the checkbox next to hibernate.
Now you will get the option to put windows in hibernate mode.
Move your mouse cursor to the bottom right of the screen to show the charms bar, select settings and go to control panel.
Once in control panel, select power option.

Click change settings that are currently unavailable

Windows logo Key shortcuts in Windows 8
The Windows Logo key on your keyboard can be used to trigger a number of useful functions.
Hit the [windowslogo] key only will open the start screen in Windows 8 or a list of programs in Windows 8.1
[windowslogo] key + number keys will open the corresponding icon on the taskbar with 1 from the extreme left, 2 second icon from left and so on.
[windowslogo] key + D will hide all opened programs windows when you want to jump to the desktop fast or hide what you crops you are farming from your boss.
[windowslogo] key + E will open the explorer window.
[windowslogo] key + L will lock the windows screen and will then require the login password to unlock so your machine will be safe from prying eyes and hands when you are away from the desk.
[windowslogo] key + F will open the search for files window.
[windowslogo] key + Q will open the search for programs window.
[windowslogo] key + W will open the search for settings window.

How to show underlined letters in menu and dialog boxes in Windows 8
The underlined letters shown in menu and dialog boxes in previous versions of Windows has disappeared in Windows 8. The underlined letters provide a clue for user to use Alt+ the underlined letters to choose the menu command that you want using keyboards.
In Windows 8 now, you can press and release Alt to show the underlined letters, you can then press the corresponding letter on the keyboard to choose so and so menu commands.
However in a dialog box, you have to press Alt+ the corresponding letter.
