Former Barcelona manager Tito Vilanova passed away at age 45

The ex-Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova was hospitalized on Thursday following a drastic downturn in his health which required emergency surgery on his stomach, but was tragically unable to survive his battle with cancer and passed away on Friday afternoon at age 45.

Following confirmation of his death, Barcelona president Bartomeu said in a statement: "Tito will be reference as a man and in terms of football for Barcelona forever. We thank him for everything he taught us. Rest in peace."

Barcelona FC sent their condolences to the family of Vilanova.

"The club wishes to express its most heartfelt sympathy to his family, who are being joined in these moments of mourning by Barcelona members and fans all around the world, as well as the rest of the footballing and sporting world.

"The Vilanova family has asked for respect for their desire for the strictest intimacy in the moments after his death."

All Barcelona FC supporters would thank him for what he has done for the club and despite battling cancer has managed to guide the club to the league title.

May his soul rest in peace.

Ex-Barcelona president Laporta shocked that Messi was not yet offered a new improved contract

The 51-year-old is shocked that Barcelona FC have still not tied the four-time Ballon d'Or winner down to a new deal yet.

"It’s shocking the Messi situation still hasn’t been resolved," the ex-Barca supremo told Cuatro. "If it were down to me, Leo would be a cule forever.”

Lionel Messi signed a deal with the Barcelona FC in February of last year that bound him to the Catalan club until 2018. However with the arrival of Neymar who despite being unproven on the European stage and just 21 years of age is given a contract which pay him more than any of the team players.

There has been talk of an extension in recent weeks but current Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu revealed last Sunday that the club are merely planning "a modification to his existing contract", namely improved terms. This unwillingness of the club to improve Messi's contract make him feel unimportant to the club and the club seemed to be giving more importance to Neymar who has been starting in the team despite not performing well in comparison to Pedro or Alexis Sanchez.

Barcelona are targeting the Argentinean goalkeeper to be the number 2 goalkeeper at the club next season. They definitely need proper backup keeper following the arrival of their choice number 1 goalkeeper Stegen, Pinto, their number 2 goalkeeper though managed some good saves, came up short in crucial moments and do not instill confidence.

Deulofeu will remain at Everton for next season

After Barcelona saw their transfer ban suspended, the Catalan club are now willing to allow Gerard Deulofeu to extend his loan stay with Everton for a further season. Though it will be great for Barcelona to give youngster more chance in the team to upheld their football philosophy. What the La Masia academy is used for if they are not going to give their youngster a chance to shine.

Barcelona wanted to sign Hummels

With the suspension of the transfer ban coming as a huge relief, Barcelona are reportedly closing in on the signing of Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, as the Liga giants look to bolster their backline as Carles Puyol is due to leave at the end of the season and Pique and Mascherano not doing that good in defense. Hummels would be a good signing for the club and will fit in well with the squad playing style.

Juventus plan to sign Sanchez

Juventus is currently monitoring Alexis Sanchez's situation especially given his current form and not getting to start in important matches with the manager Tata Martino preferring to start other players. Bianconeri would sign the Barcelona striker on loan, with full ownership scheduled for next year (for around 20 million). It wouldn't be a good idea to sell Sanchez given the form he has shown in this season.

Barcelona are interested in Javi Martinez, who could play in defense or midfield. Under Pep Guardiola, Martinez has only made eleven starts. It would be a good choice for Barcelona to sign him.
